Research Associate in Engineering, Environment & Computing
A two-year, Innovate UK-funded, Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) position is available at Coventry University working on the thermal analysis of conformal cooling channels for die casting. The successful applicant will work with Dr Essam Abo-Serie and Dr James Jewkes; the PDRA will collaborate with our industrial partners (CastAlum and Renishaw) to develop ageneric model of conformal cooling that can be applied to various complex casting geometries. Upon the development of the generic model, a validation prototype will be built that will feature sensors and data logging equipment. The final verified model will be used to develop a conformal cooling design for a high pressure aluminium die casting, to reduce the production cycle time and to increase tool life.
The successful applicant should have: a PhD in fluid dynamics and/or heat transfer with a strong background in computational modelling and thermal analysis. The candidate should have some industrial experience, experience of commercial CAD and CFD software, and of the development of mathematical models. Candidate should be able to work both independently and collaboratively, and be able to communicate technical concepts to both academics and industrial partners. He/she will be expected to integrate with the growing fluid dynamics research group at Coventry, within the research centre of Flow Measurement and Fluid Mechanics. This will require participation in research centre activities such as seminars, and they may be asked to help develop and supervise postgraduate students.
