Are you an academic looking for an innovative and successful university to take your next step? At NTU, we recognise that our greatest strengths lie in the energy, expertise, and experience that our colleagues bring.  Thanks to our £421million investment in estates and equipment across our three campuses since 2003/4, we deliver an inspirational learning environment for both staff and students.  Our research facilities allow us to shape lives and society, which is central to our mission and achievements of our aims.

2017 has been a year full of prizes, publicity and recognition for the NTU community, culminating in our receipt of the prestigious University of the Year award. Along the way, we’ve recorded some of the highest student satisfaction levels in the country in the 2017 National Student Survey, and achieved the TEF gold standard for the quality of our teaching. We are also extremely proud to have been named Modern University of the Year in the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018. All of these achievements are testament to the passion, ideas and ambition of our workforce.

Our rise up the league tables, alongside a number of prestigious national awards, demonstrate the potential that creating and forging excellent partnerships, while harnessing the talents of all our people, can bring. Most notably we have been awarded the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for our pioneering research. We are now looking for more passionate, ambitious people to join us and help build the university of the future.

Sociology at Nottingham Trent University is more than an academic pursuit. By working through our staff, students, graduates and external partners and beyond the confines of the university, we actively seek to make a positive and lasting difference to the communities we are part of. Our large inter-disciplinary team is committed to shaping knowledge, policy and practice through highly rated courses and an outstanding reputation for theoretically informed, applied research.

The work of our team is expanding and we are looking for a new colleague to join us in taking forward our exciting plans for research and teaching. The successful applicant will be active members of our thriving research community, deliver core teaching on the undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Sociology and help us to shape future provision.

For this role, candidates should have an understanding of the major subject areas within the Sociology discipline. Equally, an understanding of contemporary Sociology issues are vital for this role and the future development of the delivery of this programme.

We are looking for an Associate Professor in Sociology with two of the following specialisms:

  • Classical and Contemporary Sociological Theory
