The School of Humanities and Social Sciences at The University of Newcastle seeks to appoint two Professors of Sociology to join a dynamic and high performing School that is undergoing transformation across its research and teaching.

The University’s vision is to stand as a global leader, creating a better future for its regions through innovation, impact, and a commitment to excellence and equity; this vision applies equally to the School of Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS).  The University is making a major investment in further strengthening the School with more than 15 appointments planned for this year.

The School has a reputation for excellence: in 2015 Sociology achieved an Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) ‘4’, above world standard.  A vibrant interdisciplinary vein runs through the School, focussed around four clusters, with Sociology sitting in the Societies, Cultures and Human Services cluster.

Bringing strong personal academic records, the new Professors will also be committed to contemporary teaching practice, energetic in developing fresh research opportunities, generous mentors, successful in engaging beyond the University and have a collaborative approach to working with colleagues.

Aligned with the professional opportunity, Newcastle and its region offers a superb quality of life, be it the beaches, the vineyards or the flourishing creative community in the city.
