About Venture Cafe Sydney and Macquarie University
Venture Cafe Sydney’s mission is to connect innovators to make things happen. It will work to build stronger and more inclusive innovation ecosystems and accelerate and enhance the innovation process in Sydney. It will do this through high-impact programming, physical spaces, storytelling, and broad innovation engagement. Located in Macquarie Park, Venture Café Sydney will be a member of the growing Venture Cafe Global Network, with a shared mission and a localised approach to strengthening innovation ecosystems around the world. Venture Café Sydney will activate the Macquarie Park Innovation District and create opportunities for engagement with the Sydney innovation community as well as the growing Venture Café global network.
We are seeking to hire a dynamic founding Executive Director to launch Venture Cafe Sydney, based in the Macquarie Park Innovation District. This person will be tasked with building Venture Café Sydney within Macquarie University from the ground up, with the strong support of VCGI for training, shared resources, and ongoing support.
Whilst the role is multi-faceted, three key aspects of this role are to:
- develop and operate a sustainable organisation
- launch Venture Café programming
- engage with the innovation community

- Experience or exposure to start-up operations or entrepreneurial initiatives
- Understanding of innovation and innovation eco-systems, including business and social components
- Relationship, network and partnership building skills, including connections within the Sydney innovation community
- Experience with event/program envisaging, planning and implementation
- Developing and implementing business strategies and plans
- Budget and financial management, including reporting
Package: salary from $125,601 – $147,807 p.a. plus 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading
