The St Mary’s First Star Academy is a University-preparatory programme for young people in secondary school (age 14 onwards) who are Looked After Children (children in foster care). The Academy strives to support young people through their GCSE studies and on to post 16 studies in preparation for higher education, apprenticeships and employment. We seek to equip them with the skills to successfully transition to adulthood. The young people will spend a month each summer from the end of their school year 9, 10, 11 and 12 living on the university campus (Summer Academy), and return 1 Saturday each month during the school year (First Saturday Academy). While on campus, the young people attend academic classes focused on (but not restricted to) mathematics, English, science and computer science, participate in life skills workshops, cultural and sporting activity and explore life on a university campus.
We are seeking to recruit a lecturer to support this exciting and innovative programme in the UK, working with colleagues in US universities and in St Mary’s to develop a British version of this successful US programme.
We are now looking to appoint a fixed term 50 hours Lecturer in Education to support our First Star Academy
As Lecturer, you will prepare and deliver the First Star Academy ICT programme to our First Star students. As part of our holistic programme the flexibility deliver life skills and personal tutorials is important to the programme. Qualified Teacher Status and experience of secondary teaching are essential requirements for the post.
