General Education Office

The General Education Office serves as a resource and central mechanism of the University in developing and sustaining innovative and dynamic General Education (GE) curriculum. The Office carries the function of ensuring quality design and delivery of GE courses to facilitate best learning outcomes for students. It provides administrative support to the GE Committee and GE course providers in overseeing and evaluating GE endeavours. The Office is also responsible for the provision of assistance and advice to students on academic matters. In addition, it helps, where appropriate, coordinate the University Core curriculum.

Assistant Director of General Education


The main duty of the Assistant Director is to support the Director of General Education in administering the GE curriculum, including reviewing and enhancing the quality of the GE programme of the University. He/She will need to build partnerships and liaise with all academic units on the development, promotion, review, and quality assurance of GE courses, as well as advise teachers and students when need arises. He/She will also assist the Director in the day-to-day administration and supervision of staff of the General Education Office.

The candidate should have at least five years of teaching experience at the tertiary level and evaluating students with respect to learning outcomes. A doctoral degree or a strong academic background is preferred. He/She should be an effective communicator with excellent leadership skills, as well as interpersonal and communication skills. Experience in curriculum and pedagogical development in GE and programme management will be an asset.

Initial appointment will normally be made on a fixed-term contract of three years which will be renewable subject to mutual agreement. The University offers a competitive salary package commensurate with qualifications and experience of the selected candidate, including retirement/gratuity benefits of up to 15% of basic salary, annual leave, medical and dental scheme, and cash allowance where appropriate and in accordance with the terms and conditions then applicable at the time of offer.
