The Department of Communication Studies at Colorado State University currently teaches more than 700 undergraduate majors an 30 graduate students seeking. The graduate program offers a nationally recognized MA and PhD. The program offers education in three broad areas 1) media and visual culture, 2) relational and organizational communication, and 3) rhetoric and civic engagement. We employ nearly 35 faculty members and six support staff. The department houses the Colorado State University Center for Public Deliberation (www.cpd.colostate.edu) and hosts the Act Human Rights Film Festival (actfilmest.org). Position Summary

The Department of Communication Studies has a nationally recognized graduate program which offers the MA and PhD degrees in Communication and has approximately 30-35 students in residence. The Graduate Studies Support Coordinator is, along with the Director of Graduate Studies the primary point of contact for graduate recruits and students. As such the GSSC, is central to the program’s success in recruiting, retaining, and graduating MA and PhD students.

Required Job Qualifications

BA in the liberal arts, excellent oral and written communication skills, good organizational skills, ability to learn and use Excel, Word, and CSU on-line systems.

Preferred Job Qualifications

MA, MFA, or Ph.D. in the liberal arts preferable in communication studies or closely related field, understanding of the process of graduate education, demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, demonstrated commitment to diversity.

Organize and staff recruiting events including recruitment at regional, national, and international professional conferences.
Develop and maintain communication with applicants.
Plan and produce yearly recruiting visits to Colorado State University Fort Collins Campus.
Understand, use, and maintain Slate the online application management program

Advise newly admitted and enrolled graduate students.
Consult with Director of Graduate Studies, the Graduate Committee, and graduate faculty on curricular revisions.
Prepare students to meet all Graduate School and departmental curricular requirements.
Help connect graduate students with faculty mentors within the department and with university-wide resources.

Gather assessment data generated within the department including tracking graduate student conference and publication submissions and acceptance, oral defenses, and other metrics.
Analyze and report assessment data on a yearly basis.
Compare departmental assessment metrics and results with peer and peer aspirational graduate programs on a yearly basis.
