The ground breaking British Sign Language and Deaf Studies team at the University of Central Lancashire are seeking to recruit an indefinite, full-time Lecturer. The BSL & Deaf Studies team currently includes six internationally renowned members of academic staff, together with a team of interpreters and translators. The team offer Bachelor of Arts degrees in British Sign Language and Deaf Studies and Deaf Studies and Education, as well as a Foundation degree in BSL and Deaf Studies. In addition, the team has an established research culture, including externally funded research projects with a range of European partners and a highly regarded and successful Post-Graduate Diploma in BSL/English Interpreting and Translation.

A good honours degree in Deaf Studies or a related field is essential and applicants must have experience of teaching within the higher education environment. The successful candidate will have excellent communication and presentation skills and fluency in British Sign Language or another recognised sign language is highly desirable.

The ability to work well as a member of a committed and flexible Deaf and non-Deaf team is essential as is an awareness of current developments in the area of Deaf Studies. Evidence of interest in developing open and distance learning materials through e-learn and other online media is highly desirable.

The successful applicant for this post will play a key role in the continuing development and delivery of our BSL and Deaf Studies programmes at undergraduate level. The appointee will act as a module leader for a number of existing modules under the guidance of the Course Leader, utilising existing on-line and classroom based teaching materials as well as developing further resources to enhance the teaching and learning environment. The successful applicant will contribute to the development of module information packs and assignments, assess student progress and provide appropriate and timely feedback.
