University of London

Vice-Chancellor

The University of London is one of the oldest, largest and most diverse universities in the UK. Established by Royal Charter in 1836, the University is recognised globally as a world leader in higher education and has long pioneered change in the sector.

The University is a unique federation of 18 self-governing member institutions and a number of central academic bodies and activities.

We collaborate to deliver world-leading services including Senate House Library, The Careers Group and CoSector; and, through our University of London online, blended and flexible learning programmes, we reach out to thousands of students across 190+ countries globally.

The University of London is seeking an exceptional individual to succeed Sir Adrian Smith who is stepping down in summer 2018.  Our new Vice-Chancellor will lead us on the next part of our journey; articulating a compelling, distinctive strategy for the University of London regionally, nationally and globally; and building on our successes to date as an innovator in the rapidly changing higher education landscape.

The successful candidate will combine substantial personal credibility with clear strategic vision and exceptional leadership skills.  A natural collaborator with the ability to work confidently and consultatively with a variety of audiences, both academic and professional, and a proven capability to lead and influence in complex, multi-stakeholder environments.

Our commitment to diversity and inclusion is a key institutional value and is enshrined in our Statutes.  We recognise that identified groups of people are underrepresented in the most senior levels of higher education and welcome applications from the widest pool of talent.  The post is offered on a full time basis although we remain open to discussing part-time and flexible working arrangements in recognition of a candidate‚Äôs other commitments.
