Pro Vice-Chancellor and Executive Dean, Faculty of Science and Technology
Middlesex University is about transformation; we empower our students with the tools, attributes and opportunities to turn their potential into success. With a proud history dating back over 140 years, we have grown from a successful polytechnic to a leading modern university and global institution. We embrace inspiring teaching, lifelong learning and creative innovation, enabled and enriched by applied research.
The University has 20,000 culturally diverse students at its main campus in Hendon, and almost 20,000 students studying for Middlesex awards with academic partners in the UK and overseas and at three overseas campuses in Malta, Dubai and Mauritius.
Bringing together the University’s academic provision in Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Psychology and Sport, the Faculty of Science and Technology is a successful, growing Faculty with over 300 staff and a budget of £20.4 million. Its courses are in demand, with a portfolio that has broadened in recent years to include new areas such as neuroscience, biomedical engineering and nutrition. With state-of-the-art facilities, further investment planned, pioneering public engagement, and a track-record of innovative, practice-based teaching and assessment, it is a truly dynamic and exciting place to study and work.
We are now seeking an experienced, innovative leader to join us as Pro Vice-Chancellor and Executive Dean for the Faculty. An executive role, reporting directly to the Vice-Chancellor, the post holder will be responsible for the leadership and development of the Faculty and, as part of the Vice-Chancellor’s Executive, will contribute to discussions and decisions across the full range of the University’s work.
Successful candidates will have a commitment to the values and aims of Middlesex University and bring exceptional energy, drive and creativity to the role. They will have the expertise and experience to lead a large and diverse academic unit, and to play an active role in the development and achievement of the University’s strategic plan. An ability to combine leadership of the Faculty with cross-university roles is essential. This might include, for example, the University’s research and knowledge exchange activities, but will be agreed with the Vice-Chancellor depending on the successful candidate’s expertise and experience. We are also interested in candidates who can bring leadership of curriculum innovation both within the Faculty of Science and Technology and with other faculties, such as in creative technologies.
We particularly welcome applications from women and BAME colleagues given the under representation in STEM subjects and senior university management across the sector.
