The University of the West of Scotland is a leading edge modern University driving an ambitious strategy for high quality teaching and research with a global engagement agenda to reflect the needs of the 21st century workplace.  The School of Engineering and Computing is well established in addition to being an internationally recognised multidisciplinary academic centre.  The Civil and Construction Engineering Subject Group is seeking to strengthen its teaching and research expertise through the appointment of a Senior Lecturer in the area of Civil Engineering.

We are looking to enhance our profile by appointing an outstanding and highly experienced academic.  You will demonstrate a strong leadership capability in the subject area and will be expected to take on substantive leadership duties within the School.

The prospective candidate should have a good first degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited programme and normally be qualified to PhD level in a Civil Engineering or closely related discipline.  Full membership of a professional body such as ICE, IStructE, CIHT, IHE (or equivalent) and HEA is desirable.  The successful candidate will have experience in module and programme leadership.  They should aspire to take a lead role in developing new innovative teaching practice in Civil Engineering.

We are looking for a candidate with significant experience in teaching who can make a valid contribution to teaching in one of the core Civil Engineering subject areas.  The post holder must have experience operating in a Higher Education environment and be able to take on leadership duties within the Subject Group and School, including line management.

Relevant research and/or industrial experience in either Structural Engineering, Hydraulics, Materials, or other specific areas associated with Civil Engineering as well as experience with recent developments in these areas and evidence of a proven track record of sustained high quality publications in leading journals, are an essential requirement for the post.  The School’s research is organised into a community of industry-focused inter-disciplinary research groups.  The successful applicant will establish research and commercial activities in the aforementioned areas and collaborate with colleagues across all disciplines to enhance the impact of their research and contribute to the REF process.

This position will be based at our Paisley Campus with potential activities at our other campus locations such as the new Lanarkshire Campus.  The successful candidate will also contribute to our outreach activities promoting STEM subjects and our international activities as required.
