Enhanced Mentored Associate (Materials and Process Engineer)
The Materials and Engineering Institute MERI at the University is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified post graduate for an Enhanced Mentored Associate position in collaboration with Gripple Ltd of Sheffield. This is a great opportunity to participate in an exciting venture concerned with the development of fire resistant materials and components for use in Gripple’s product range.
Gripple is an award winning manufacturer of wire joining and tensioning devices. The global market leader in its field Gripple has a turnover of over £60m with over 85% outside the UK, is profitable and employs over 600 staff. Our 2021 vision is to grow to over £100m. This role is critical in understanding and solving one of the key challenges in the market and is critical in ensuring Gripple stays ahead of the competition. Further details on Gripple can be seen on www.gripple.com
Applicants should be a high quality graduate with a BSc (Hons) or BEng (Hons) and preferably a MSc, incorporating materials and/or mechanical engineering and should be able to demonstrate some experience in practical aspects of materials characterisation and product testing covering a wide range of materials types. Any experience of testing of materials at high temperature would be a distinct advantage.
You should be self-motivated, with a logical and analytical approach to your work and have the ability to disseminate information effectively through both written and verbal communications.
If appointed, you will be based at the company offices working directly with the Innovation Team and receive additional mentoring support and training from University staff. You will be expected to carry out testing and characterisation work at the university using its state-of-the-art facilities in addition to facilities at Gripple and to manage work placed with external test facilities.
The Enhanced Mentored Associate role with Gripple offers opportunities for extensive personal development at both the company and the university, and represents a unique opportunity to work with leading researchers at the MERI and to see your work make an impact in the real world.

If you are selected for interview, the assessment day will be within 2 weeks of the closing date and will include a presentation and formal interview.
