Dental Hygienist, School of Dental Medicine, Clinical Affairs
A dental hygienist is a licensed member of the dental team responsible for the preventive aspects of oral health. Licensed dental hygienists provide clinical, education, and therapeutic services that promote optimal oral health.
Provide clinical services by exposing radiographs, performing dental cleanings, performing scaling and root planning with local anesthesia, dispense fluoride and administer therapeutic agents.
Provide patient education by reviewing home care, oral hygiene instructions and reviewing treatment plans with the patient
Collect patient and clinical date by reviewing and updating medical history, identifying contraindications and requesting medical clearance as necessary, performing oral cancer screenings and perio assessments, charting dental findings
Practice infection control by maintaining a sterile environment in the operatory, inspecting instruments for sterility. Practices universal precautions.
HS Required, BA preferred
1-3 years’ experience
