Information about the Department

The Department of Computer Science (IDI) has about 246 employees including 33 professors, 38 associate professors, 13 adjunct associate professors, 18 assistant professors, 30 postdoctoral researchers, approximately 90 active PhD. students, and 23 technical/administrative staff. More than 7,000 students study one or more courses at the department each year. IDI has offices in both Trondheim and Gjøvik, and the position described in this announcement will be positioned in the unit for applied information technology (AIT) in Trondheim. The position

At the research unit, there is a vacancy as associate professor in computer supported collaborative work (CSCW). The unit currently has about 40 employees and offer a master in CSCW. The unit also has four bachelor programs within IT; engineering, computer systems management, information processing and IT-supported business development. An essential part of the educational unit's educational activity is e-learning, and we offer both online-based studies and online-based continuing education courses. The research unit has research in digital interaction, e-learning, image processing and visualization in 3D. A more comprehensive overview of research activity at IDI is available at AIT is a major national provider of online IT subjects in the continuing education market.

We seek employees who can primarily teach within one or more of the focus areas of our master in CSCW. This is about utilizing a multitude of digital technologies, in different processes, where demands and frameworks in relation to interaction also can be very varied. In this master study, students receive thorough theoretical and practical training in digital interaction, and they are provided a thorough introduction to the management of processes where digital solutions are implemented and utilized in organizations' digital service production. Furthermore, the study deals with learning in organizations focusing on knowledge management and enterprise-adapted e-learning, as well as methodology focusing on scientific methods, planning of research projects and writing of the actual master's thesis. As an employee, you will help shape future master candidates within our field of study. In addition, you will work with interesting issues related to teaching and developing new teaching methods within the department's educational areas. You must have the ability to work independently, ability to interact and collaborate with colleagues, students and business. Requirements and qualifications

Applicants must have a doctorate in at least one of the focus areas of the master program. In particular, a PhD in CSCW, Information Systems or Information Technology is deemed relevant

Those who are admitted without having formal pedagogical university education skills and cannot document equivalent qualifications are required to pass an approved pedagogical course in university education within two years after the appointment. NTNU offers such courses. Emphasis will be placed on pedagogical skills. Experience with the development of topics and other teaching-related activities, as well as the guidance of students will count positively.

The scientific staff work largely in teams, because several topics are often integrated into major topics with joint organization. Desires and ability to cooperate with other staff are therefore emphasized in addition to personal suitability.

Good oral and written proficiency in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language is particularly positive since teaching is mainly in Norwegian. In addition, the applicant must master English both verbally and in writing. The person who is added must comply with the decisions regarding changes that the development of the subject entails and the organizational changes that decisions regarding the university's activities may entail.

Newly employed academic staffs who do not already master a Scandinavian language are required to obtain knowledge of Norwegian or another Scandinavian language within three years of taking up the position. This must be of a standard equivalent to Level 3 in the Norwegian for Foreigners courses provided by the Department of Linguistics. Courses are available at the University 


Associate professor follows code 1011 with gross salary level 499 900 - 722 400 per year depending on seniority and qualifications. 2 % of the salary is deducted as a compulsory contribution to the Government Pension Fund.

Joint works will also be evaluated. If it is difficult to identify the contributions from individuals in a scientific collaboration, applicants are to enclose a short summary of her/his contribution.

After the application deadline, a shortlist of applicants will be drawn up, and all applicants will be informed as to whether or not they have made the list. An expert committee will evaluate all shortlisted applicants. The top applicants from this evaluation will be invited for interviews and trial lectures.

The successful applicant should start before 1st of January 2019, but an earlier start date is preferable.
