Description of Work Unit

The Career Center is part of the Division of Student Affairs (DSA) and takes a holistic approach to career and job search education, encouraging students to investigate opportunities with consideration to their skills, goals, and values. Employer Connections provides a valuable link in the university/employer network by facilitating employers to make the right connections and build relationships that meet their hiring goals and other developmental needs. The Colorado State University (CSU) Career Center recognizes the varied aspirations of our diverse student body and therefore employs a variety of services and networks to support our students on their different pathways. Position Summary

The Associate Director of Employer Connections is a full-time, 12-month role with sole responsibility for student employment services and on-campus recruiting services. The Associate Director of Employer Connections develops strategy and manages all functions of CSU Student Employment, including stewardship of off-campus employer relationships as well as facilitating on-campus employer needs.

This position serves as a central resource for all on-campus student employment supervisors, consulting on best practices and collaborates with the Associate Director of Career Education to develop trainings and resources that creates a rich student employment experience. Additionally, this position provides leadership for all on-campus recruiting services, such as On-Campus Interviews and Employer Recruitment Events, which serves more than 500 employers and 10,000+ students every year. The Associate Director functions as a key member of the Career Center leadership team and Employer Connections team, participates in all Career Center activities, and supervises three full-time professionals.

Required Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, communications, student affairs or a related field
  • Two years’ of experience directly supervising professional staff
  • Five years’ experience in a public relations and/or employer relations and/or human resources position in a business or educational environment
  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to diversity and inclusiveness; experience working with diverse populations across the breadth of diversity

Preferred Job Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in human resources, business, communications, student affairs or a related field
  • Demonstrated expertise building new relationships and maintaining them with employers, students, faculty, and administrators OR in a similar relationship building environment such as business sales
  • Experience creating and delivering presentations to various stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to build partnerships across multiple units/departments
  • Demonstrated outstanding communication skills
  • Experience in strategic planning and successful execution of strategic objectives
  • Experience with high-volume database entry, report pulling and data handling
  • Experience in visioning, planning, designing, implementing, and evaluating innovative career programs with a knowledge of decision-making processes on a large university campus or in a similarly structured large organization

Essential Duties

Job Duty Category Strategy, Leadership, and Management of Student Employment Services Duty/Responsibility

  • Lead all aspects of Student Employment Services for the CSU Campus
  • Address issues and make decisions in the absence of the Director or Executive Director
  • Oversee the technology system that manages all student employment job postings, creating, communicating and ensuring that proper protocol and processes are being followed
  • Hire, train and supervise two professional Student Employment Coordinators
  • Formulate, apply and communicate HR policies and procedures for campus employers and student workers by evaluating existing federal and state guidelines, developing and adapting campus policies as needed
  • Jointly develop and implement department level strategic plan
  • Determine, evaluate, and manage employers both on and off campus to develop job opportunities, by consulting with them on best practices, updating and maintaining online resources, and answering incoming employer questions
  • Collaborate closely with Associate Director of Career Education to create and provide trainings, resources, and communications on best practices to CSU departments providing campus employment
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state laws and regulations for various work-study programs in close consultation with Student Financial Aid
  • Consult with Student Supervisors across campus to help solve problems and answer questions regarding student employment practices

  • Build and manage long-term employer relationships, specifically focusing on part-time employment, both on and off campus. Develop new relationships in order to create more opportunities for students to find work while attending CSU.
  • Work with employers to develop on-campus engagement plans that fit their goals and needs
  • Communicate information on Career Center programs, employment opportunities and career development activities to employers, faculty, staff, students and alumni.
  • Ensure team-wide coordination and knowledge of employer relationships by tracking and recording employer conversations, activities, etc. in Handshake and/or other assigned CRM systems to
  • Recruit employers for career related events such as the Fall/Spring Career Fairs, Just in Time Job Fair, etc.
