Reader or Professor in Cyber Security
The Faculty of Engineering, Environment and Computing at Coventry University is one of the largest in the UK and is nationally and internationally renowned as a centre of innovation for its teaching, learning and research of computing subject areas. The School of Computing, Electronics and Mathematics is one of three schools within the faculty and has a very successful suite of courses supported by excellent staff, teaching facilities and laboratories. The school is responsible for the development of a thriving portfolio of teaching and research.
The School of Computing Electronics and Mathematics and the new High-Performance Computing Institute is looking for a Reader or Professor to develop a robust multi-disciplinary team with a view to developing world-leading research in Cyber Security with strong industrial links.
The High-Performance Computing Institute aims to provide translational research support in areas of high-performance computing, cyber security, big data, statistics, data science, and artificial intelligence to the wider research community, as well as producing high-quality research in the fundamental issues surrounding these subjects.
As a secondary responsibility, the HPCI is responsible for supporting the University's tier 1 international partners in developing research capability. The institute works closely with the University's doctoral college and the successful candidate will be expected to fulfil in part their teaching duties through supervision of distance learning PhD students, as well as supporting the school's transnational education agenda, which may include some "flying faculty" interaction with our partners internationally, such as Dubai, Muscat, Hong Kong or Malaysia.
You will actively contribute to research groups or communities of practice internally, through the Faculty Research Centres, and externally, assisting with bids and tenders for external projects or contracts. You will also be disseminating research outputs using a range of media and develop external networks nationally and/or internationally. Significant experience in the supervision is essential, and experience with transnational education and/or quality and approval issues surrounding course design would be helpful.
As the position involves the conferment of the title of Reader or Professor, University policy requires the application to be reviewed by an external expert before appointment, and in applying, the candidate consents to his form being confidentially shared with suitable experts in the field. Your references should be of sufficient standing to comment on your suitability to be conferred the title of Reader or Professor, as appropriate.
The post is ideal for an experienced academic with an active research portfolio and strong industrial connections, but due consideration will be given to an industrial specialist from the field of Cyber Security.
As one of Coventry's biggest employers we will provide an excellent benefits package and a personal and professional development programme that will help you to achieve your aspirations.
