The Monash Law Clinics (MLC) are a set of community legal services and programs conducted by lawyers and supervised undergraduate and postgraduate law students which have been in operation since 1978. Monash University currently operates clinics in Clayton (MLC-C) and Springvale (SMLS) with our newly created Melbourne CBD clinic (MLC-M) to open its doors mid-2018.
In preparation for the opening of the newly created CBD clinic, we are seeking to appoint a highly experienced Senior Lawyer in the role of Practice Manager who will be responsible for building the profile of the clinic as well as providing overall strategic management and supervision of the clinic.
Reporting to the Director, Monash Law Clinics, you will draw on your experience as a Senior Lawyer to lead and support the provision of expert legal advice and close supervision of law students and volunteers who participate in the Monash Law Faculty Clinical Program. In addition, this role will also play a key role in the establishment of the CBD clinic’s legal services structure, its delivery of legal services and in securing ongoing funding.
You will have extensive experience in legal practice management, preferably within the community legal sector, and a demonstrated interest in supervising law students or junior practitioners to ensure the provision of high-quality legal assistance to clients. A capacity and interest in engaging in academic activities, a record of obtaining external funding either individually or as a team and evidence of participation and high-quality contribution to professional and/or university committees would be highly regarded.
