Head of School, Mathematical and Physical Sciences
The University of Newcastle, Australia
The University of Newcastle’s vision is to stand as a global leader, creating a better future for its regions through innovation, impact, and a commitment to excellence and equity; this vision applies equally to the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences. With the University’s next major initiative being the development of a STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine) Precinct, the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences will play a key part in realising that vision.
Known for the quality of its research and with strong connections to industry, the School has undergone substantial renewal over the last two years, including the appointment of a number of senior academics and innovation in the education programs. This reinvigoration is set to continue with a further tranche of investment in the School planned by the University. Working with the Pro Vice-Chancellor for the Faculty of Science, Professor Lee Smith, the new Head of School will have the opportunity to develop the strategy and plans for the next phase of the School’s development.
As Head of School, the University is looking for an energetic and contemporary leader who aspires to drive continual improvement across research, education and engagement with the University’s communities. A strong relationship builder, he or she will work to support and develop a high calibre team, exploring new opportunities and fully realising the potential of the School in a changing landscape.
