Programme Lead, Design, Elam School of Arts
A bold new vision of design education is being realised at New Zealand's top ranked, research-led University. As part of a major phase of investment, the Programme Leader, Design will lead the development of an interdisciplinary approach to pedagogy and scholarship in design which will complement the existing creative arts and other programmes at the University of Auckland.
This is an exceptional opportunity for a dynamic and creative leader in the field of design, to articulate and operationalise a strong vision of the future of design both within the University and for broader social impact. You will have a minimum of a masters level qualification in design and high level skills in the development of curricula, pedagogy and scholarship. In addition, you will demonstrate the business acumen required to plan and manage resources, spaces and support activities to meet the University's financial performance requirements and secure the sustainability of the programme.
With outstanding communication and collaborative skills, you will be enthusiastic about building relationships to enable interdisciplinary and cross-faculty collaborations in both teaching and research, demonstrating relevance and deep engagement with industry.
This is a permanent (tenure-track equivalent) academic position appointable at Senior Lecturer/ Associate Professor level. As Programme Lead (on an initial three year term, which may be renewable) you will be responsible for the overall development, delivery and outcomes of the design programme at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Elam School of Fine Arts is an integral part of the Faculty of Creative Arts and Industry. The University of Auckland celebrated 125 years of fine arts education in 2015, during which time Elam has established its reputation as the foremost art school in New Zealand, where many of the country's best-known artists have begun their careers. The new Design School will enhance this reputation, supported by a significant capital works programme to provide purpose-built teaching and research spaces and greater access to technology and resources.
Auckland has recently been ranked third best city in Mercer's Quality of Living Survey for the sixth consecutive year.
