Director for Knowledge Exchange Policy and Practice

UCL is one of the world’s leading universities with around 13,000 academic, research and professional services staff, over 40,000 students and an annual turnover of £1.3bn. UCL’s excellence extends across all the breadth of disciplines; from one of Europe’s largest and most productive hubs for biomedical science interacting with several leading London hospitals, to world-renowned centres for architecture (UCL Bartlett) and fine art (UCL Slade School). UCL is characterised by its world-leading research and in the most recent (2014) Research Excellence Framework (REF) exercise, UCL was rated the best university in the UK on the basis of ‘research power’.

A new Director for Knowledge Exchange Policy and Practice is sought to play a central role in the Enterprise Directorate. The role will bring leadership, internally and externally, to cross-UCL knowledge exchange programmes and related policy. It will also be the lead for the university response to the KEF and associated statutory reporting, as well as to the many policy developments around innovation. In addition, they will have an important role in delivering the UCL Innovation and Enterprise contribution to the REF and, where appropriate, the TEF. Developing a programme for evaluating the effectiveness of interventions will also be an important element of the role.

Candidates will be experienced leaders in supporting research or innovation, ideally in a higher education environment. They will be proven strategists, with an in-depth understanding of government policy and the economic and societal benefits of knowledge exchange. Strong networks within relevant professional fields, and outstanding interpersonal/persuasion skills are essential.
