Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in Visual Art Education (Visual & Performing Arts Academic Group)

The Visual and Performing Arts Academic Group (VPA) at the National Institute of Education in Singapore is responsible for the delivery of teacher preparation programmes for all Primary and Secondary Art, Drama and Music educators. Known for their collegiality, innovative arts-based pedagogies and pioneering research and publications, faculty across Art, Music and Drama in the Visual and Performing Arts Academic Group combine diverse creative backgrounds to engender a supportive ambience towards developing leadership and scholarship capabilities. VPA faculty are engaged in research in Intercultural Theatre, Cultural Politics and Performance, Sound / Music in Performance, Virtual Performativities, 21st century issues, Philosophy of Music Education, Cross-Cultural Studies and Interdisciplinarity in Music and Education, to name a few.
VPA Academic Group intends to appoint a tenure-track Assistant Professorship or Associate Professorship in the area of Visual Art Education.
a) All candidates should possess a Doctorate Degree or have recently submitted their Doctorate in the area of Visual Art Education.
b) An established publication record of research in the areas of Visual Art Education, preferably with indication of research grant awards in related areas of expertise and interest.
c) Teaching experience at tertiary level in addition to teaching experience in public or independent schools (government or state schools) would be an advantage.
d) Experience in teaching at undergraduate, post-graduate and diploma (including in-service) levels, with indications of ability to teach Visual Art Education theory, practice and pedagogy is highly desirable.
e) Capacities for teaching, research and administrative duties including supervision of pre-service teachers during their practicum assignments at schools.
f) Expertise and interest in Art Education and Pedagogy and at least one of the following areas:
- 2D, 3D Art practices
- Videography, Photography and ICT in Art Practices
- New Media and Popular Culture in Art Practices
- Curriculum Development/Assessment and Implementation
- Creative development in Early and Adolescent Learning
Successful candidates will be expected to:
- Lead or collaborate in funded research projects, as well as maintain a strong research and publication record
- Supervise student teachers in teaching practicum, mentor and supervise masters and doctoral students
- Teach courses in the field of Visual Art Education (theory, practice, pedagogy) at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
- Undertake any administrative duties required as exigency of service
