The School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications
The School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications has a vibrant research culture reflected in the achievements of its academic staff, and is currently rated as a level 5 ERA School (“Well above world standard”) in each of the 2010, 2012 and 2015 Excellence in Research Australia evaluations. The School enjoys a world-leading reputation for research excellence, with six IEEE Fellows among our 44 academic staff. According to the Shanghai Jiaotong 2016 rankings, EE&T@UNSW is placed first in Australia.
The School has innovated significantly by introducing the first 5-year integrated bachelors/masters (with minor) and first (non-conversion) 2-year accredited masters programs, each with a major component of engineering design. These innovations have positioned the School in a period of very strong growth. Nationally, the School offers the most complete range of undergraduate and postgraduate electrical engineering and telecommunications programs, and is the largest of its kind.
The School building is currently undergoing a $104m refurbishment, which when complete, will place our facilities amongst the best in the world. About the role
The candidate we will recruit will be an exceptional researcher in Telecommunication Networks with an emphasis on resource constrained devices, in the School’s priority area of Telecommunications. The role will collaborate close with the wireless communications researchers within the, researchers from other Schools working in networked systems and the UNSW Smart Cities Cluster. The role will play a significant part in the in the establishment of a world class research team, engage with industrial partners and deliver outstanding educational programs within the School and Faculty.
The appointment would be:
- at level B ($103K - $121K), at level C ($125K - $143K), at level D (149K - $164K) or at level E ($191K) (plus 17% superannuation and leave loading) per annum, commensurate with academic qualifications and experience,
- full time,
- to a Convertible Tenure Track Employment Contract for an initial fixed term period of 5 years, with conversion to continuing appointment based on satisfactory performance and there being sufficient productive work available.
The Faculty reserves the right to offer an appointment on a continuing basis or to directly appoint to advertised positions.
We are looking for an exceptional candidate who has:
- a PhD in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- a proven track record in research and attracting competitive research funding
- evidence of delivering high quality and innovative teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels
- a demonstrated passion for strongly contributing to the core functions of School and Faculty, and to collaborating across disciplines and with industry
