Professor/Associate Professor/Program Director, Medieval and Early Modern Studies
- Lead a new research team in Medieval and Early Modern Studies
- Full-time continuing research post
- Based at ACU’s Melbourne Campus
We seek a dynamic and collegial scholar with an international reputation in Medieval or Early Modern Studies to lead and mentor staff and shape a new research program within ACU’s Institute for Religion and Critical Inquiry (IRCI).
Working with and reporting to the Institute Director, the Program Director will have a proven track record of internationally-recognised research in medieval and early modern studies broadly conceived. He or she will have a successful track record of academic leadership and service and will work collegially and collaboratively to build his or her own research profile and initiate and contribute to team projects which address significant problems in the field. The Program Director will initiate and sustain national and international research partnerships and develop a collaborative, creative, and high-quality research program across the team.
The IRCI is a research Institute which promotes collaborative research on religion and critical thought from multiple disciplinary perspectives, including philosophy, theology, history, and literature. It explores the inter-relationships between philosophy, religion, and their cultural contexts, and contributes to contemporary theological, philosophical, social, and political debates. We now seek to add a program in Medieval and Early Modern Studies to established research in Biblical and Early Christian Studies, Philosophy, and Religion and Theology, building on current expertise in this period across theology, philosophy, history, and literature. In addition to this role, we are currently advertising for multiple Research Fellow or Senior Research Fellow positions which will report to the Program Director. The Institute has established research partnerships with leading global universities, and presents a series of research seminars each year at ACU’s Rome Campus. In the recent Excellence in Research Australia 2015 exercise, research in Religion and Religious Studies and Philosophy was ranked ‘above world standard’.
ACU is an inclusive community which welcomes students and staff of all beliefs. ACU enrols more than 35,000 students across seven campuses—Adelaide, Ballarat, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, North Sydney, and Strathfield (Sydney). As valued members of our community, all staff members are expected to understand ACU’s mission and values and to demonstrate an active contribution to them.
Remuneration: Professorial salary is $176,678 + 17% employer superannuation contribution. The Associate Professor salary scale starts at $137,156 + 17% employer superannuation contribution. The position also attracts a research allowance.
