Hours: 0.4 FTE (2 days a week)

This is an exciting opportunity to join the University’s multidisciplinary School of Arts and Humanities at a key moment in its development. The School currently offers excellent programmes in creative arts and humanities including BAs in Acting, Screen and Film Media, History and Creative and Professional Writing as well as innovative postgraduate courses in Sports Journalism, Public History, Theatre Directing and Human Trafficking.

Job Purpose 

The Art of Dying Well, an initiative aimed at providing hope-filled accompaniment for the human journey, is looking to recruit a Director to take it to the next level. This project began life with the Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales and has been transferred to St. Mary’s University. The project has been extremely successful at using new means of communication to engage with the wider public and the media about accompaniment for end of life. St. Mary’s University wishes the post holder to build on and extend this success. 

As Director of The Art of Dying Well you will be responsible for designing, developing and implementing strategic plans for the project. You will also be responsible for day-to-day operations. You will have particular responsibility for developing the initiative’s digital strategy and will collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders. You will have experience of fund-raising and be able to build upon and develop the contribution of the Art of Dying Well to the national and international conversation around death and dying. You will be expected to contribute to teaching on the School’s programmes in Communication and Marketing.
