PhD Fellowship in Process Metallurgy
One PhD fellowship in process metallurgy is available at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, NTNU. We invite applicants with strong interest in metallurgical processes and a master degree in materials science, physical chemistry, or a related field. The PhD research is in the area of upgrading Ilmenite ore to Titania slag and high purity pig iron, product characterization and further processing. The focus will be on high temperature smelting-reduction of ilmenite ore and further study of the produced Titania slag for TiO2 production. The project will require the use of high temperature furnaces, commercial thermodynamic software, advanced materials characterization technique, and leaching trials. The research is related to the SFI-Metal Production national Centre (www.ntnu.edu/metpro), and is carried out in cooperation with the Norwegian Industry. We search for a person that is creative, innovative and can work independently, possesses good communication skills, and integrates well into a team.

The regulations for PhD programmes at NTNU state that a Master degree or equivalent with at least 5 years of studies and an average grade of A or B within a scale of A-E for passing grades (A best) for the two last years of the MSc is required. Applicants must agree in form of a contract to participate in a structured doctoral study program and satisfy work related duties within the period of the appointment.
The primary workplace will be Department of Materials Science and Engineering, NTNU, Trondheim, Norway. The appointment of the PhD will be made according to Norwegian guidelines for universities and university colleges and to the general regulations regarding university employees. All applicants must be able to communicate fluently in English (in speaking and writing). The appointment has a duration of 3 years with the possibility of 1-year extension with 25% teaching duties in agreement with the department. (To undertake the teaching duties it is a requirement that the candidate speaks Norwegian or another Scandinavian language).
The position as PhD research fellow is remunerated according to the Norwegian state salary scale. There is a 2% deduction for superannuation contribution.
