Salary Level: Classification Level 6 (Salary range A$77,060 to A$83,392 gross per annum plus up to 17% employer superannuation contributions)

Overview of Student Services and Engagement

Student Services and Engagement (SSE) is part of the portfolio of the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Students) who is responsible for setting the vision and strategic direction for the student experience, student success and retention.  SSE strives to provide a positive, transformational experience for all USC students and has a broad brief to deliver key initiatives and services under the USC Student Success and Retention Blueprint. 

SSE Services include USC-wide face-to-face, email and telephony to provide support and advice to students about administrative and academic matters; domestic admissions; credit application processing; course and program enrolment; examination and graduation services.  

SSE is also responsible for student finance services, administration of scholarships and the student information system. SSE Engagement activities include student communications; first year and academic program advice; orientation and student success programs for learning engagement; support for learning; and student health, wellbeing and disability support. Reflecting USC’s values, SSE manages USC’s comprehensive program of widening participation activities with communities and schools in its broader region. SSE strives to provide a best in sector approach for all USC students, and in doing so to develop opportunities for staff engagement and career development.

Overview of the Role

Under the broad direction of the Student Development Officer, the Career Development Officer provides an effective career development and graduate employment service that aligns with, and is embedded in, curriculum. The role provides professional expertise and support in the design, development, implementation and evaluation of quality programs and strategies that meet the career development needs of USC student and graduates. The focus is on proactive and early intervention strategies that assist students in achieving positive educational and lifelong learning outcomes and aim to foster resilience and personal skills development to increase employment outcomes.  

This position applies professional expertise to deliver individual sessions, events and workshops to facilitate positive educational, developmental and lifelong learning outcomes for prospective students, current students and graduates. The Career Development Officer will also collaborate with a range of internal and external stakeholders to promote USC’s employment services and attract quality job opportunities for students and graduates.

The successful candidate will hold a relevant degree combined with experience in providing career guidance within a higher education environment. The incumbent will possess excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to anticipate and respond effectively to the career development needs of students, and demonstrate highly developed communication and digital skills.

The Career Development Officer may be required to work some non-standard hours during the academic year depending on upon the demands of the area. Some after-hours work to assist at University events may also be required.
