About the opportunity
The position of Associate Professor or Professor of Infectious Diseases is to provide leadership in education and research within the Discipline of Infectious Diseases and Immunology in the Central Clinical School, and more broadly in the Faculty of Medicine and Health and the Faculty of Science, Sydney Local Health District (SLHD) and Sydney Health Partners. This position will become vacant in mid-2018. The successful applicant should have an internationally competitive research program, experience in the successful supervision of Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students and deep understanding of the rapid changes in the clinical and laboratory aspects of infectious disease and medical microbiology. The successful applicant will also be part of the leadership team in interdisciplinary research centres of the University of Sydney, including the Marie Bashir Institute for Infectious Diseases and Biosecurity and the Charles Perkins Centre, Camperdown where the position and administrative support are located. The appointee is expected to be offered the opportunity to participate in activities either in the Department of Infectious Diseases (SLHD) and/or the Microbiology Laboratory (NSW Health Pathology) which are integrated and co-located within Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPAH).

Term and remuneration
The successful applicant will be offered a full-time continuing position at the level of either Associate Professor or Professor, subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation and confirmation period for new appointees. A competitive remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful candidate. Clinical activities within RPAH will be in accord with the Senior Medical Practitioners Clinical Academics award arrangements as they apply in NSW and will be under the SLHD’s and/or NSW Health Pathology’s governance.
