The School of Veterinary and Life Sciences (VLS) has major strengths in research and teaching across the whole of the life sciences. The School is well resourced with research and teaching facilities, and hosts a number of research groups and centres across the disciplines of Agricultural Sciences, Environmental and Conservation Sciences, Medical and Molecular Sciences and College of Veterinary Medicine. Murdoch has the largest cohort of agricultural students in Western Australia. Academics in the Centre for Pastures, Production Animals and Health have major strengths across the animal production industries with strong links to national and international partners and research funders.

The Role

The Lecturer Animal Science will play an integral role in the School of Veterinary and Life Sciences by developing scholarly research outputs and contributing to the teaching effort of the School. This includes unit co-ordination and the preparation and delivery of tutorials, lectures and other types of teaching activities, as well as the supervision of honours and postgraduate students. The role is also expected to perform a range of administrative and service functions within the School and across the University.   

Skills and Experience

  • A PhD in livestock production, preferably specialising in an area of animal science.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching in the area of animal sciences, or two or more years of postdoctoral or equivalent professional experience.
  • An ability to engage in high quality independent research, with an established record of scholarly publications and Industry engagement.
  • Well developed links with the red meat supply chains, including evidence of converting research outputs into Industry application.
  • Demonstrated capacity to produce grant applications, with a track record in the generation of research funding (either independently or as part of a research team).
