The Department of Computer Science (IDI) has about 246 employees including 33 professors, 38 associate professors, 13 adjunct associate professors, 18 assistant professors, 30 postdoctoral researchers, approximately 90 active PhD. students, and 23 technical/administrative staff. More than 7,000 students study one or more courses at the department each year. IDI has offices in both Trondheim and Gjøvik, and the position described in this announcement will be located in Trondheim. IDI is the host Center of excellence in IT education (Excited) that started in 2017 lasting 5 + 5 year https://www.ntnu.edu/excited . The person appointed in this position is expected to be a key player in the center.
The candidate is expected to have a leading role in research and research-based teaching in the field of IT didactics, the department’s continuing and further education course for teachers, the informatics specialization of teacher education in science and basic subjects in programming, especially for first year students. Research activities are expected to have a strong international profile and weight. Research should have a long-term perspective in accordance with the Institute's strategy and be centered around basic issues in education research in information technology. The institute specifically wishes to strengthen research activities related to the improvement of learning outcomes for major programming subjects in the early stages of the study.
The one who receives the position will participate in regular education including further education, and provide relevant courses at all levels. He or she is going to supervise bachelor, master and PhD students. In particular, supervisory assignments associated with teacher education in science will be central.
He or she is expected to actively seek research support and other external resources from national and international sources and is expected to convey relevant parts of his research to a further audience, as well as participate in the administration of research and teaching and other relevant tasks by agreement with Head of Department.
Requirements and qualifications
Applicants must have a doctorate in information technology or IT-subject didactics or equivalent. There will be a decisive emphasis on research competence in IT-didactics, and research in first-year students or other beginners learning of programming is considered to be particularly prioritized. There is also a solid background in information technology in general, at least correspondingly completed masters degree with very good results.
Applicants should have a solid list of peer-reviewed publications. Documented research funding from relevant sources and experience from leading research projects will be added weight. Further emphasis will be placed on educational skills and education. This assessment will be based on documented pedagogical competence, including educational education / experience, form of presentation in scientific work, experience from supervision and teaching, as well as educational background of another kind. In the assessment, both quality and breadth will be considered.
The candidate's personal aptitude and motivation for the position will be assigned great weight in the selection process.
Good oral and written proficiency in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language is required since the teaching is in Norwegian. In addition, the applicant must master English, both verbally and in writing.

An expert committee will evaluate all shortlisted applicants. The top applicants from this evaluation will be invited for interviews and trial lectures.
The successful applicant should start before 1st of January 2019, but an earlier start date is preferable.
Academic staff employed without prior formal pedagogical qualifications in university-level teaching, are required to complete a recognized course that gives a pedagogical qualification within two years of taking up the appointment. NTNU offers such courses.
The associate professor should adhere to regulations that concern changes and developments within the discipline and/or the organizational changes concerning activities at NTNU.
Associate professor follows code 1011 with gross salary level 499 500 - 722 000 per year depending on seniority and qualifications. 2 % of the salary is deducted as a compulsory contribution to the Government Pension Fund.
