The Department of Accountancy, Economics and Finance, in the School of Social Sciences at Heriot-Watt University, wishes to appoint a Research Associate to work on the EPSRC funded project “Low carbon jet fuel through integration of novel technologies for co-valorisation of CO2 and biomass”. This multidisciplinary project unites leading team from the Universities of Heriot-Watt, Oxford and Edinburgh with the expertise required to realise the vision of developing low-carbon jet fuels. The team balances expertise across relevant disciplines of science, engineering and social sciences.  The team is supported by international groups providing strong links to relevant research programmes overseas and also by industrial partners to maximise knowledge exchange and impact of the project outcomes. We are looking for a creative and highly motivated researcher willing to work as part of team to support our work package on Energy Policy and Public Engagement.

The main duties and responsibilities of this post are to:

  • Carry out a comprehensive review of existing alternative jet fuel technologies;
  • Carry out quantitative analyses such as industry analysis, stakeholder analysis, market analysis, and productivity analysis;
  • Form and maintain excellent partnerships with relevant stakeholders;
  • Engage with relevant stakeholders through different channels such as focus group discussions, interview key stakeholder representatives;
  • Collect relevant data from academic partners in other work packages, industrial partners and relevant stakeholders;
  • Carry out performance evaluation analysis using multi-criteria decision-making analysis-based frameworks;
  • Identify gaps and improvement areas, discuss energy policy and regulatory-related issues and make energy policy recommendations.

Please note that this job description is not exhaustive, and the role holder may be required to undertake other relevant duties commensurate with the grading of the post.

Activities may be subject to amendment over time as the role develops and/or priorities and requirements evolve.

The successful applicant will hold a good first degree and a PhD (or near completion) in Energy Economics, Energy Policy, Finance, Business Analytics or similar discipline.

The candidate must have excellent economics, analytical and communication skills and be able to work in a diverse team of academic and industrial partners.
