The Royal Horticultural Society’s (RHS) core objective is to be the world’s leading gardening charity by inspiring passion and excellence in the science, art and practice of horticulture. An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Associate on a collaborative project between the RHS and Cranfield University. The project will involve undertaking research and knowledge translation activities to support implementation of a suite innovative, cost effective, impactful water management technologies and methodologies within the RHS. The Associate will also help implement behavioural change among amateur and professional gardeners. The successful candidate will benefit from a personal £6,000 development budget.

As a KTP Associate, you will be largely based at RHS Gardens in Wisley, Surrey, but will work closely with the academic team based within Cranfield Water Science Institute, which has an international reputation in irrigation science, agricultural and horticultural water management. The KTP Associate will work directly with colleagues in the Horticultural and Environmental Science Team and Green Team responsible for promoting business sustainability.

You will have a BSc (2.1 or 1st) in a relevant subject such as environmental science, environmental engineering, physical geography, agronomy, or similar and ideally a PhD or MSc in a related subject with a strong focus on soil water management, or relevant industry experience. You will have a thorough knowledge of water quality and quantity issues in horticulture and understanding of appropriate research techniques including experimental design and analysis of quantitative data. You will also need to demonstrate an ability to undertake public engagement and communication of technical information to non-scientific audiences, be highly self-motivated and have initiative and strong project management skills.
