Ulster University has established an exciting new £11.5M Northern Ireland Centre for Stratified (Personalised/Precision) Medicine and is committed to its development as an area of excellence. The Centre is based at the Altnagelvin Hospital site in the Clinical Translational Research & Innovation Centre (C-TRIC) in Derry/Londonderry. The Centre draws together biomedical scientists, molecular biologists, doctors and computer scientists from academia, the health service and industry in their efforts to better diagnose and treat degenerative diseases including hypertension, diabetes, inflammatory disease, bone disease, neurodegenerative disease/mental illness, and cancer. We are exploiting whole genome and clinical data to develop the new stratified medicine diagnostics.

The Northern Ireland Centre for Stratified Medicine is an integral part of the School of Biomedical Sciences and Biomedical Sciences Research Institute at Ulster University which have a vibrant research ecosystem, teaching and learning environment and have internationally acclaimed expertise in molecular biology, biomedical science, molecular medicine, pharmacy and nutrition, with strong links with the health service, national, and international industry.

We wish to appoint innovative and ambitious individuals with integrity, energy and a passion for their work. The postholders will deliver on the objectives of a series of disease-focused work packages associated with a major generously funded stratified medicine project, working at the interface between systems biology/bioinformatics, genomics and medicine. Core duties will be research focused, but will also include delivery of innovative specialist undergraduate and postgraduate taught provision in stratified medicine and the proposed new Graduate Entry Medical School. The posts will involve close engagement with end users including the health service and the pharmaceutical and diagnostics industry. Applicants must have research outputs which are eligible for inclusion in the next UK Research Excellence Framework (REF).

All posts are permanent and available at an early date mutually convenient to the University and the successful applicants.
