Description of Work Unit

The mission of the Proteomics and Metabolomics Facility is to serve as an enabling resource for research and development programs at Colorado State University. We strive to build instrumental capabilities and expertise that exceed the normal resources of individual research programs, and make those technologies available as a shared resource. We also aim to provide an environment rich in expertise and educational resources, and to foster collaboration across the CSU community and beyond.

Position Summary

The RA will contribute to essential business operations of the PMF by operating the LC-MS and GC-MS mass spectrometers housed in the PMF facility and working independently to perform data analysis and report generation.

Required Job Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in a related field such as Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Microbiology or other relevant field.
  • Must have excellent communication skills and be comfortable with public speaking.
  • 1 year of laboratory experience

Preferred Job Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years demonstrated laboratory experience in analytical techniques including experience with some of the following: mass spectrometry, gas and/or liquid chromatography, protein and/or metabolite extraction, derivatization, and protein digestion.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform independent research and present results.
  • Demonstrated ability to interface with members of the scientific research community and to interact with customers or clients in a service environment.

  • Operation of LC-MS and GC-MS mass spectrometers housed in the PMF facility. Responsibilities will include preparation of samples (extraction), instrument maintenance, and mass spectrometry data acquisition.
  • Act as direct supervisor/mentor of undergraduate student employees.
