Who we are:

Manchester is one of the most extensive higher education centres in Europe and the most popular city for students in the UK. We are at the heart of it, delivering cutting-edge skills to people from 120 countries – 94% of whom go into work or further study within six months of graduating. Since 2006, we have invested £350 million into our exceptional campus to deliver our vision of being the best modern university, and we continue to achieve and innovate every day.

Where you’ll work:

Our Faculty of Health, Psychology and Social Care (HPSC) is the largest provider of nursing and allied health professionals in the North West, and is widely recognised, accredited and respected. Based within the award-winning £139 million Brooks Building, the Faculty enjoys exceptional facilities and maintains two active and innovative Research Centres.

The Faculty is working in partnership with Nuffield on health promotion and literacy. You will join the team at an exciting time in developing health, social and community related areas of excellence across the University and combining this with Nuffield’s expertise in preventative pathways to health to deliver outstanding collaborative and translational research in health and wellbeing which supports Manchester Metropolitan in its work and Nuffield in furthering its charitable objects.

About the role:

You will be responsible for championing the attainment of the joint goals of Manchester Metropolitan and Nuffield, working collaboratively with a network of teams and external stakeholders. You will champion the highest standards in teaching, research and knowledge exchange. We will look to you to build on your, and our, high international profile as you speak at conferences, undertake learned society and committee work, judge awards and prizes and act as a research council peer reviewer or PhD examiner. At the same time, you will maintain a steady record of quality publications in peer reviewed journals or books and generate significant contract income, and you will have a central part to play in attracting postgraduate research students of the highest calibre.

About You:

Qualified to doctorate level in Health and Wellbeing, and very experienced in your field, you will bring exceptional organisational, negotiating and leadership skills, plus a clear and original vision for our syllabus. A Public Health background is essential, with an understanding of the industry and of Nuffield’s place, commercial processes and arrangements. Naturally, you will require proven ability to lead and direct research, attract funding and develop colleagues, and you will be a genuinely original and creative thinker with exceptional passion for making a difference.
