About the Role

The School of Pharmacy and Medical Sciences focuses on applied research and professional education, enriched by the professional knowledge of its staff, state-of-the-art facilities, and strong partnerships with industry, community, and professional bodies.

In this position, you will contribute to NHMRC grant-funded research under the broad direction of the Chief Investigator in order to achieve defined objectives and test hypotheses in the area of antimicrobial drug development. Specifically, you will design and perform experiments for the study of the structure-function of microbial drug targets and for the development of inhibitors of these targets.

Skills and Experience

To be eligible for this role, you will have an Honours degree (level ARA) or postgraduate qualification/s (level ARAS) in Protein Biochemistry, Molecular Microbiology or a related field. You will also have skills and experience in molecular microbiology e.g. the cloning of recombinant proteins as well as protein expression, purification and analysis, and other relevant methods for the analysis of microbial proteins and their interaction with small molecule inhibitors.

Though your career you would have garnered experience in recording, analysing, presenting and disseminating research to stakeholders including competency in the preparation of papers for high quality publications or posters for conference presentations. Your grants and publications, in relevant areas of research and a substantial knowledge of laboratory procedures relevant to the research project/s as well as the ability to maintain scientific equipment, would give you an added advantage for this position.
