Assistant Professor in Digital Media (Ref. 18051006)

The School of Design, as a leading and transdisciplinary design school, is at the forefront of nurturing responsible, open-minded, creative talents and active learners; contributing to innovation in Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland while maintaining a global perspective.  As one of the top design schools in the world, its highly diverse design expertise and academic programmes include: Advertising Design, Communication Design, Design Strategies, Digital and Interactive Media Design, Environment and Interior Design, Interaction Design, International Design and Business Management, Product Design, Urban Environments Design, and Social Design. The appointee will be required to: 

(a)    contribute to teaching in the area of Digital Media Design at all levels;

(b)    act as student advisor and supervisor to groups as well as individual students;

(c)    undertake administrative duties in relation to academic affairs; 

(d)    engage actively in research and scholarly activities and professional community services which meet the needs of the School; and

(e)    perform any other duties as assigned by the Dean of School or his delegates.


Applicants should have:

(a)    a relevant PhD degree or a relevant master’s degree plus at least five years of professional/academic experience in the area of Digital Media related to script writing, content design and production in live action, animation, visual aesthetic and digital visual effects; 

(b)    demonstrated competence and experience in teaching the above subject areas;

(c)    extensive knowledge and awareness of the latest trend and development of his/her areas of expertise as mentioned above; 

(d)    an excellent command of English;

(e)    the qualities of creativity, aesthetic/design sense, initiative and leadership; and

(f)    a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, research and professional service.

Preference will be given to those with teaching experience at the tertiary education level and language proficiency in Chinese.

Applicant should submit (a) a letter of application together with completed application form; (b) curriculum vitae; (c) statement of research and statement of teaching philosophy; (d) three key publications; (e) a design and/or teaching portfolio including copies of ten to fifteen samples of personal work, with a brief description of the work and involvement; and (f) samples of student work.

Remuneration and Conditions of Service
