As part of the Tenure Track Programme, the Institute of Philosophy at the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences invites applications for the
Junior Professorship (W1) in Practical Philosophy with a research focus on evaluative and ethical questions of technology innovation and/or digitisation of all areas of life
(W3 with Tenure Track)
initially limited to a four-year contract as a temporary public official, to be filled at the earliest possible date. Following a positive interim evaluation, the contract will be extended to a total of six years. In the fifth year, a tenure evaluation by a faculty-wide and school-wide commission will be carried out. Following a positive evaluation, a permanent Chair (W3) of Practical Philosophy with a research focus on evaluative and ethical questions of technology innovation and/or digitisation in all areas of life will be granted without a renewed call for applications.
Evaluation criteria mutually agreed upon when the position is accepted will form the basis of the evaluation procedures. Essential elements of the evaluations will be the scientific success in the form of qualified publications that have been assessed in conformity with international standards, the successful acquisition of third-party funds, documented commitment in formats of knowledge transfer, transdisciplinary commitment and establishment of cooperations with scientists from the STEM areas, as well as developing and carrying out lectures dedicated to the research area, also in English, with positively evaluated teaching performance.

During the temporary Junior Professorship, the applicant must prove that they are capable of widely representing the subject area of Practical Philosophy with commitment to research and teaching, in great systematic and historical depth. The applicant’s expertise is expected in the academic (as well as interdisciplinary) discourse regarding normative questions, arising from societal, political and legal repercussions of technical and scientific transformations relevant for society, and in particular from the interrelationships between technology innovations and technological and societal change in relation to individuals, society and the environment.
The responsibilities also include the participation in teaching courses in Bachelor, Master and teacher training programmes in Philosophy/Ethics, as well as the active involvement in the academic self-administration and academic committees of the faculty. The applicant is expected to be involved in research relevant to obtaining third-party funding in the context of the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Science. Furthermore, willingness for research-oriented cooperation with the natural science and technical institutes of TU Dresden is expected. The willingness and to conduct classes in English is also required.
Applicants must fulfil the employment qualification requirements of § 63 of the Act on the Autonomy of Institutions of Higher Education in the Free State of Saxony (Higher Education Act of the Free State of Saxony – SächsHSFG).
