Evolutionary Neurobiology Unit

Responsibilities 

Evolutionary Neurobiology Unit is proposing projects for a researcher on developmental and functional studies of sensory and neural cells of marine invertebrates including sponges, placozoans, ctenophores, and cnidarians). The developmental, morphological and especially physiological features of these basal animals remain highly understudied, the subjects we are studying with the state-of-the-art technologies on microscopy, genomics, transcriptomics, metabolomics, and molecular/cellular/developmental biology.

The successful candidate will 

  • Perform genetic and microscopic studies using marine invertebrates.
  • Design and establish protocols.
  • Analyze genomic and transcriptomic data.

Qualifications 

(Required)

  • A suitable candidate should have a PhD in evolutionary biology, developmental biology, or related field, and experience in light microscope and fluorescent microscope.
  • Research experience and strong background on evolutionary developmental biology.
  • Ability to work independently, explore and implement new tools/techniques to facilitate the gene function and neurobiological experiments in non-model marine invertebrates.
  • Because of the Evolutionary Neurobiology Unit is interdisciplinary, the candidate will might be integrated into collaborative environment and is required to have excellent team working and communication skill.
  • The candidate should be motivated, proactive, and service-oriented team player willing to help other members with basic and advanced aspects of gene function experiments.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English.

(Preferred)

  • Working experience in international and interdisciplinary environment is an advantage.
  • Some expertise in computational processing and quantitative analyses of image data is a plus.

Starting Date 

On or after April 1, 2018  

Term & Working Hours 

Term: Full-time, fixed term appointment for 1 year. This contract may be renewed.

Working hours: 9:00-17:30 (Discretionary)
