Hans Carl von Carlowitz Junior Professorship (W1) in Sustainability Assessment and Policy
at the earliest possible date. The Junior Professorship will be offered as an employment position with a three-year contract. Provided the successful candidate’s performance will be evaluated positively, employment may be extended to a total of 6 years.
The Junior Professorship carries the name of Hans Carl von Carlowitz (1645 – 1714), who is considered the founding father of sustainability. The Junior Professor will represent the topic of sustainability assessment in research and teaching within PRISMA. Regarding research contributions, the candidate is required to advance concepts, methods and scientific knowledge of sustainability assessment within the candidate’s academic discipline. In principle, these contributions should also be relevant for sustainability assessment in politics, business and society. The acquisition of third party funding for research projects is expected. The candidate will help to establish teaching modules on sustainability assessment and policy. Mandatory teaching assignment amounts to 4 semester hours per week. Research and teaching is integrated in the inter- and transdisciplinary environment of PRISMA. A willingness and ability to conduct classes in English is expected. The duties include participation in academic selfadministration.
We are seeking a candidate with high international reputation who has demonstrated an outstanding academic record in the form of internationally peer reviewed publications. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification, as well as didactic skills are also prerequisites. A willingness to engage in cross-disciplinary cooperation with chairs of various faculties at the TU Dresden is expected, as well as with the Dresden-based FLORES Institute of the United Nations University (UNU) on sustainability assessment and the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Applicants must fulfil the employment qualification requirements of § 63 of the Act on the Autonomy of Institutions of of Higher Education in the Free State of Saxony (Higher Education Act of the Free State of Saxony – SächsHSFG).
