The Centre for Applied Health Economics (CAHE) within the School of Medicine at Griffith University was established in 2008. The Centre currently employs 25 staff on contract research projects, fellowships and research grants, and has a number of affiliated HDR students. The Centre is self-funded with an emphasis on teamwork. There are several strong research themes in health economics, including economic evaluation, measurement of health outcomes, and priority setting. This research has attracted multiple research grants from national bodies (eg the ARC and NHMRC). Staff in the Centre are also associated with one or more of the research programs within Griffith University's Menzies Health Institute Queensland (MHIQ).
We are currently seeking two Research Fellows to provide high level expertise in health technology assessment (HTA) of health care interventions. HTA involves providing objective evidence-based appraisals of proposals for medical services/procedures and pharmaceutical products using a wide range of skills including critical appraisal of clinical trial evidence, quantitative analysis, and systematic literature reviews to name a few. The incumbents will be key members of the research team undertaking evaluation of industry submissions of new technologies for listing on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme and the Medical Benefits Schedule.
These are fixed term (three years), full time positions based at the Nathan campus.
These positions will suit either graduates in health economics or experienced researchers who wish to apply their knowledge and expertise directly into health policy decisions. The positions provide a unique opportunity to contribute to health technology assessment expertise within the CAHE that has direct impact on health policy within Australia, while also encouraging traditional academic research by developing a research program of interest to the appointees.
To be successful in this role you will have strong quantitative skills and experience in systematic review, meta-analysis and/or cost-effectiveness analysis. You will have experience in the supervision of research staff and participation in grant applications and tenders. You will also have research interests in public health, epidemiology, health services research or health economics aligned with the Centre's strategic objectives. A PhD or equivalent industry experience is required for appointment at Grade 2.
Research Fellow, Grade 2: $90,697 - $107,706 per annum. Salary package including 17% employer superannuation contribution: $106,116 - $126,017 per annum.
Research Fellow, Grade 1: $70,744 - $83,217 per annum. Salary package including 17% employer superannuation contribution: $82,771 - $97,365 per annum.
