The School of Languages and Cultures is one of the largest Schools of language instruction in Australia with over 45 academic staff.
The School teaches Chinese, French, German, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Russian and Spanish, as well as Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, to students in the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of International Studies, the university-wide concurrent Diploma in Languages, the Diploma of Arts, and dual degree programs.
At postgraduate level the School offers two NAATI-accredited Masters programs in Translation and Interpreting (one in Japanese and one in Chinese) and a large Masters program in Applied Linguistics. Staff research and supervise PhD students in a diverse range of fields relating to languages and cultures.
The School is looking to appoint an Associate Lecturer/Lecturer in the area/s of Chinese translation and interpreting, language and linguistics, applied linguistics, or related fields. The successful appointee will engage, as an Associate Lecturer/ Lecturer, in undergraduate teaching and supervision, undertake and contribute to further development of the School’s Chinese program, as well as performing research, service/engagement and other activities associated with the School.
Applicants should possess a PhD in a relevant area of Chinese translation and interpreting, language and linguistics, applied linguistics, or related fields. The applicant should have demonstrated capacity to implement effective language-teaching methodologies and use alternative modes of teaching, including blended and/or flexible learning. The applicant should also have demonstrated evidence of a developing or record of publication in high-quality outlets in the field appropriate to the level of the appointment.

The Level of appointment will be commensurate with qualifications, experience and academic achievements. Applicants should note in their cover letter the academic level to which they are applying.
Academic Level A
The remuneration package will be in the range $78,552 - $87,535 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $91,906 - $102,416 p.a.).
Academic Level B
The remuneration package will be in the range of $92,142 - $109,419 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range of $107,807 - $128,020 p.a.).
