The Norwegian oil and gas industry is in the forefront with respect to subsea field developments, but new and innovative solutions are still required to meet current and future challenges. To accelerate the level of innovations within subsea production and processing, SUBPRO – a centre for research-based innovation, was established at NTNU in 2015. The centre is supported by the Research Council of Norway and several major international industry partners. For more information about SUBPRO, please visit our web site: www.ntnu.edu/subpro

Description

SUBPRO is currently hiring a new PhD candidate for a period of three years, within the following area:

Optimizing subsea production facilities layout to minimize risk and cost.

The position is located at Department of Geoscience and Petroleum (IGP).

The cost of subsea field developments includes drilling and well construction costs, subsea facilities costs and installation costs. The different cost items are interrelated and mutually dependent. For example by reducing well lengths and drilling cost, the tie-back, distribution and installation cost will increase. Technical risks, flow assurance issues and costs are also a concern and consideration in field layout planning.

The research objective is to build a comprehensive field development model where users can assign their own cost data to the modelled components and operations. The model shall be made such that it can be used to identify and quantify optimal solutions for costs and risks.
