Kent and Medway Medical School

In equal partnership, the University of Kent and Canterbury Christ Church University are creating a new medical school for Kent and Medway which will become a beacon for first-class medical education and research. Through a truly collaborative approach and shared vision, the Kent and Medway Medical School (KMMS) will become an exemplar for innovative, person-centred education and research. The new teaching and research centre will attract the most talented aspiring healthcare professionals from the local community and beyond. Newly qualified doctors will be encouraged to remain within the Kent area and contribute to the delivery of quality and innovative healthcare across the county.

This is a unique and exciting opportunity to lead KMMS through the first phase of its development as its inaugural Dean with effect from September 2018. The Dean will provide the strategic, academic and operational leadership necessary to deliver the vision, design and implementation of a truly integrated Medical School, delivering an outstanding student education and experience and a vibrant research culture. The Dean will be responsible for overseeing and developing an ambitious strategy that will allow the School to welcome its first cohort of students in 2020. This will involve consulting with regional NHS partners and healthcare organisers to shape its overall design and the new degree programmes.

The successful candidate will be an established leader with a deep understanding of the strategic imperatives of developing a medical school, bringing a passion for medical education and research. She/he will be a dynamic and inspiring individual with a collaborative approach and a track record of effective senior management. Applicants for the role will be clinically qualified and have considerable academic and personal credibility.
