Based in Liverpool with some International Travel
Founded in 1898 and the oldest of its kind in the world, the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for teaching and research in tropical diseases. Through the creation of effective links with governments, NGOs, private organisations and global institutions and by responding to the health needs of communities, LSTM aims to promote improved health, particularly for people of the less developed/resource poorest countries in the tropics and sub-tropics.
LSTM has a strong mentorship culture with support for academic advancement. We have an expanding focus on teaching having recently gained Degree Awarding Powers for taught and research degrees.
To support this continued success, the Department of Education has a vacancy for an enthusiastic and experienced Lecturer to play a major role in the development, design and delivery of epidemiology and medical statistics teaching. The successful candidate will undertake teaching and teaching-related administration for taught programmes within areas of expertise and contribute to the development and delivery of LSTM’s Teaching Expansion Plans.
Working with academic colleagues across LSTM, you will drive forward the development and use of innovate teaching techniques and resources aimed at creating engagement, understanding and enthusiasm amongst students.
You will promote student-centred and research informed approaches to teaching and help to enhance the learning, teaching and scholarly environment of LSTM. The expectation will be that you spend around 20% of your time on research related activities.
We are looking for a candidate with substantial experience in epidemiological methods either in the UK or in low-resource settings. The successful candidate must have experience of teaching epidemiology and/or medical statistics to postgraduate students.
You will have a postgraduate qualification in medical statistics or epidemiology and a qualification in teaching at postgraduate level. The post holder must be a team player with the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary and multicultural environment, well-organised, and with excellent attention to detail.
S/he must be able communicate and work collaboratively across LSTM with researchers and staff involved in supporting student learning.
Whilst the post is fixed term in the first instance, we are looking to expand our provision in this area of teaching alongside growth of student numbers.
