REF Delivery Director
King’s College London
REF Delivery Director
King’s College London is one of the top 25 universities in the world. Situated in the heart of London, it is a diverse and global institution with more than 27,000 students from nearly 150 countries, and more than 7,000 colleagues across five campuses. King’s is a vibrant and exciting place, inspiring and leading the way in discovery and innovation through its students, academics and their cutting-edge research. King’s provides an intellectually stimulating environment in which to work, with staff dedicated to the advancement of knowledge and learning, in the service of society.
The new REF Delivery Director will provide practical day-to-day leadership, organisation and direction for the university in the planning, oversight and management of the arrangements for REF 2021 and beyond. The postholder will coordinate activity across King’s, making sure that processes are robust and in line with regulations, and will provide specialist advice and support to the Vice-Principal (Research), Operations Director (Research & Researchers), main panel leads, Provosts, Deans and the wider King’s Senior Management Team to secure the best possible outcome for King’s.
The appointee will also develop and lead a broader set of activities designed to enhance research performance. The REF Delivery Director will be expected to cultivate strong working relationships with relevant external bodies such as the funding bodies and UKRI, and will serve as the primary university contact for REF 2021. He/she will sit on the Research Management and Innovation Executive.
The College is looking for a superb organiser and coordinator with first-rate project management credentials and an eye for detail. Strong candidates will probably bring first-hand experience of leading REF preparations, and will ideally have worked previously in a research-intensive university. The appointee will have a good grasp of research policy developments at a national level and evolving REF requirements and will be skilled at supporting – and engaging with – external stakeholders. Strong communication, influencing and organisational skills will be critical, as will the ability to engage with the academic community across all disciplines at King’s. Candidates must be tough, diplomatic, resilient, and flexible, as well as passionate about performance. This is an opportunity to lead an area of activity that is absolutely pivotal to King’s success in the next REF and beyond.
