Post-Doctoral Position in Decision Support Systems

Forest ecosystems provide various ecosystem services and under the concept of multiple-use forestry managers develop short-, mid and long term plans to meet the demands of forest owners and the general public. Decision Support Systems (DSS) have the potential to support forest managers in designing those management plans and preparing decisions under economic, ecologic and socio-economic constraints. DSS are computer based systems that combine predictive forest ecosystem models with the power of operations research methods and database management systems in order to support decision making by various visual and tabular means. The design of a powerful DSS, which provides meaningful results and is easy to use is not trivial. The success of the research activities is therefore also strongly depending on the acceptability of the potential users of the DSS.
We are searching for two postdocs.

  • Design and develop a framework for a Forest Management Decision Support System in the Czech Republic;
  • Evaluate multi-criteria decision making methods (MADM, MODM) for forest management planning;
  • Evaluate uncertainty techniques and risk assessment methods for providing decision support;
  • Combine models, methods and data for the application of the DSS in a case study.
