Associate Professor in Biology
Department of Biology is engaged in teaching core biology courses at undergraduate and post graduate levels and training of students in research leading to postgraduate diploma, M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees. The biology courses cover wider disciplines of cell and structural biology, genetics, animal and plant systematic, physiology, developmental biology, ecology and microbiology. Department is looking for experienced staff to impart quality teaching and training in these areas.
Appointee shall be reporting to the Dean, College of Engineering Science & Technology through HOS-School of Pure Sciences. The successful applicant is required to contribute to teaching of existing courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the areas of Developmental Biology, Animal Physiology, Comparative Anatomy, and Microbiology as well as to develop new courses and programs relevant to the society intensive areas. Appointee is required to supervise student research leading to award of M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees these areas. Appointee would undertake high-quality research at an international level of excellence in a relevant area of modern biology, cell signalling, and genetics. The appointee is expected to interact and strengthen current research in the School in other areas of biology as well, addressing to local, regional and global challenges. The appointee must have an ability to interact with and stimulate the interests of students. The appointee is expected to provide academic leadership and, where relevant, assume a significant academic management or administrative role as directed.
Qualifications PhD in Developmental Biology, Animal Physiology, Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy or Microbiology and research as evidenced through quality publications in international journals in two or more of these areas as well as evidence of supervision of Master's/Doctoral level thesis in these areas. Candidate should have MSc in mainstream areas of animal or plant biology. A minimum of ten years of tertiary teaching experience of which at least three years should be at Assistant Professor level and above. Candidates with lesser work experience shall be considered for Assistant Professor level appointment.
In addition to the above requirements, applicants should also possess the following :
- Ability to develop programs at undergraduate and postgraduate level to teach effectively at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
- Ability to provide academic and administrative leadership
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Have high quality independent research publications.
