The post of Business Advisor and Mentor offers an opportunity to work with UCLan's Propeller team and support the U Start, ERDF project. This interesting and varied role calls for an experienced confident professional with strong team working skills and extensive experience in providing business support at an operational level.

Based on the 4th Floor of UCLan's Media Factory on Preston Campus, the successful candidate will work as a member of Propeller team to develop enterprising mind-sets in UCLan students and graduates. The primary focus of the role will be delivering support to both new and early stage businesses and social ventures. There is an emphasis upon mentoring and coaching students, staff and graduates developing business ideas and business plans. The work also includes diagnosing client needs, developing and agreeing action plans as well as contributing to the organisation and delivery of enterprise and entrepreneurship networking and development events.

With significant demonstrable experience of providing business development support for businesses and a proven record of accomplishment in diagnosing and delivering effective business support and developing relationships with key stakeholders, the successful applicant will be educated to degree level (or equivalent) and hold a relevant professional or postgraduate qualification. Possessing excellent interpersonal skills, you will have the ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders, be highly motivated and have a strong commitment to high quality customer care.

The U Start project, part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund, aims to assist graduates from the University of Central Lancashire and Lancaster University to start up their own businesses. People who benefit from the project are students enrolled with one of the Universities, staff at one of the Universities (including academic and non-academic staff), and alumni based within the region who have recently graduated.
