Head of Human Resources

This appointment is an opportunity for the successful applicant to play a key strategic role at senior management level in the progress of a small, specialist, commercially-minded and ambitious University in one of the most beautiful and historic parts of the country.  

The Royal Agricultural University (RAU), established as the Royal Agricultural College in 1845, is situated in the heart of the Cotswold countryside. It has a well-established reputation and is recognised nationally and internationally for its education, applied research and knowledge exchange relevant to the land-based industries, having well established links with employers, government and a range of NGOs.  

The recently appointed Vice-Chancellor, Professor Joanna Price, and her new leadership team, are shaping a strategic vision and plan for the RAU that will enhance its reputation and ensure the University‚Äôs continued relevance and sustainability. 

To contribute to this process, the University is looking to recruit a new Head of Human Resources who will operate as a senior manager of the institution, leading the development of improved processes and systems and supporting strategic and cultural change. The Higher Education sector is facing significant challenges with pressure to show increasing value for money for students, demonstrable social investment and financial efficiency.   This has implications for staff development, performance management, business processes, and HR systems.
   
The ideal candidate will be a successful HR professional with proven leadership potential, a track record of developing systems, delivering change and organizational development, ideally within the HE sector. The ability to work closely with the senior executive team and willingness to take strong decisions where needed are critical, as is the ability to build an effective, high-performing outcome-focused HR department.
