Research Technician position at Neuronal Mechanism for Critical Period Unit 

The Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST; see is a dynamic new graduate university of science and technology in Okinawa Prefecture, Japan. There are no academic departments, which facilitates multidisciplinary research. Outstanding resources and equipment are provided and managed to encourage easy access and collaboration. We seek a Research Unit Technician who will work in our research unit, Neuronal mechanism for critical period  Unit (Principal Investigator: Yoko Yazaki-Sugiyama) as details described below. In this unit we are working on the neuronal mechanism for how sensory experience shapes motor output during developmental critical period by using bird song learning.

Position summary:
We seek a Research Unit Technician who are expected to have responsibilities on:
- Taking care of experimental animals (birds)
- Maintenance of equipment
- Technical support for experimental projects
  * Independent research projects are available depending on the applicants’ background and motivation   

Working Location:
1919-1 Tancha, Onna-son, Okinawa, Japan 904-0495

1.    Bachelor or higher degree (Scientific background is preferable)
2.    Communication skills in English or Japanese

Starting Date:
As early as possible

Term & Working hours:
Term: Full-time, fixed term appointment for 2 years. Contract initially with 3-month probationary period (inclusive). This contract may be renewed.  

Working hours: 9:00-17:30 (Discretionary)

Compensation in accordance with the OIST Employee Compensation Regulations
